New Blog

I know I haven't written on this blog in a couple of years, and I'm not sure that anyone really checks it anymore, but this is just a quick note that I have a new blog.  erleigh.wordpress.com

Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving!  There is so much to be thankful for this year.  For my family, and niece on the way, for my job, for school, and a place to live.  Not to mention the beautiful weather.  Yay for not having to wear long sleeves yet, and its the end of November :)

October 2010

Its been a long time since I have written anything on here.  Easter apparently, and before that I think it was last October.  There must be something about those times of year, that make me more contemplative.

I am currently in Florida.  Enjoying 4 days of not working, nice weather, seeing a couple of friends, and Jerry's wedding.

The quietness is nice.  I need it.  To walk around a lake.  To talk to God.  To read His word.  To just Be still and know that He is God.

Easter

I woke up Easter morning with two numbers on my mind from whatever I had been dreaming about.  So I got up and looked up the Psalms that corresponded to those two numbers, 71 and 99 (they are posted below).  But there was a part that stood out to me.

"But as for me, I will always have hope; I will praise you more and more.  My mouth will tell of your righteousness, of your salvation all day long, though I know not its measure.  I will come and proclaim your mighty acts, O Sovereign LORD; I will proclaim your righteousness, yours alone.  Since my youth, O God, you have taught me, and to this day I declare your marvelous deeds.  Even when I am old and gray, do not forsake me, O God, till I declare your power to the next generation, your might to all who are to come." (71:14-18).

"The LORD reigns" (99:1a)

I haven't written since October.  I don't write often as not many people read this and I spend tons of time at work on the computer and when I am at home I am usually writing papers for school.  I just get bored of it.  But it is Easter, the day we celebrate that Jesus rose from the dead, that He paid the price and redeem us, that we can have life and have it fully.   It seemed like a fitting occasion to write again.  Its not about me, it is about God.

Psalm 99

1 The LORD reigns,
       let the nations tremble;
       he sits enthroned between the cherubim,
       let the earth shake.  2 Great is the LORD in Zion;
       he is exalted over all the nations.
 3 Let them praise your great and awesome name—
       he is holy.
 4 The King is mighty, he loves justice—
       you have established equity;
       in Jacob you have done
       what is just and right.
 5 Exalt the LORD our God
       and worship at his footstool;
       he is holy.
 6 Moses and Aaron were among his priests,
       Samuel was among those who called on his name;
       they called on the LORD
       and he answered them.
 7 He spoke to them from the pillar of cloud;
       they kept his statutes and the decrees he gave them.
 8 O LORD our God,
       you answered them;
       you were to Israel a forgiving God,
       though you punished their misdeeds.
 9 Exalt the LORD our God
       and worship at his holy mountain,
       for the LORD our God is holy.

Psalm 71

 1 In you, O LORD, I have taken refuge;
       let me never be put to shame.
 2 Rescue me and deliver me in your righteousness;
       turn your ear to me and save me.
 3 Be my rock of refuge,
       to which I can always go;
       give the command to save me,
       for you are my rock and my fortress.
 4 Deliver me, O my God, from the hand of the wicked,
       from the grasp of evil and cruel men.
 5 For you have been my hope, O Sovereign LORD,
       my confidence since my youth.
 6 From birth I have relied on you;
       you brought me forth from my mother's womb.
       I will ever praise you.
 7 I have become like a portent to many,
       but you are my strong refuge.
 8 My mouth is filled with your praise,
       declaring your splendor all day long.
 9 Do not cast me away when I am old;
       do not forsake me when my strength is gone.
 10 For my enemies speak against me;
       those who wait to kill me conspire together.
 11 They say, "God has forsaken him;
       pursue him and seize him,
       for no one will rescue him."
 12 Be not far from me, O God;
       come quickly, O my God, to help me.
 13 May my accusers perish in shame;
       may those who want to harm me
       be covered with scorn and disgrace.
 14 But as for me, I will always have hope;
       I will praise you more and more.
 15 My mouth will tell of your righteousness,
       of your salvation all day long,
       though I know not its measure.
 16 I will come and proclaim your mighty acts, O Sovereign LORD;
       I will proclaim your righteousness, yours alone.
 17 Since my youth, O God, you have taught me,
       and to this day I declare your marvelous deeds.
 18 Even when I am old and gray,
       do not forsake me, O God,
       till I declare your power to the next generation,
       your might to all who are to come.
 19 Your righteousness reaches to the skies, O God,
       you who have done great things.
       Who, O God, is like you?
 20 Though you have made me see troubles, many and bitter,
       you will restore my life again;
       from the depths of the earth
       you will again bring me up.
 21 You will increase my honor
       and comfort me once again.
 22 I will praise you with the harp
       for your faithfulness, O my God;
       I will sing praise to you with the lyre,
       O Holy One of Israel.
 23 My lips will shout for joy
       when I sing praise to you—
       I, whom you have redeemed.
 24 My tongue will tell of your righteous acts
       all day long,
       for those who wanted to harm me
       have been put to shame and confusion.

October Wind

I came to the realization today, that I love the weather in October. It is still 'hot' by most people's standards, but the air has changed, and there is a hint of fall. The mornings are cool and breezy, but not too cold. The afternoons are perfect. I just want to be outside and soak it all in.

It is a time of transition. A time of change. It is a season that seems to so represent my life as it has been for the past few years-maybe as it always will be. In constant motion. Up and down. The ending of one thing, blending into the beginning of the next.

A year ago, I was living in Bohumin. Spending my weekend with youth group visits, enjoying a real fall for the first time ever. Changing leaves. I was getting my visa, visiting friends in Slovakia, focused on ministry full time, learning another language.

Now I am living in Mesa. Working at a school, enjoying Arizona 'fall'. No Changing leaves. I work, visit my family, go to school, study, read, lead a Bible study for High School girls, try to still be a learner.

Little shifts here and there. Is it really so different? No...and Yes.

A Few Last Ones

So in the 16 days I was gone, I only took 100 pictures. The other people on my team took way more and I will hopefully get some of those pictures soon (complete with me leading song motions). But it was really nice to not be the one taking so many pictures and just being with students and old friends. This trip was really a blessing in so many ways. So here are a last few of mine from Praha during debriefing.

Hike Day

Half of the group striking a pose before we head up the next steep part to get to the rocks.
You can't see it, but in addition to the incredible view on the other side of the far rocks is covered in blueberries patches. This was only the part where we stopped to have lunch.

Super Hero Day

My Class was very small with lots of teachers. So we each took turns teaching a day. The day I taught was Super Hero Day. It was awesome. Everyone had to become their very own superhero complete with superpowers, enemy, sidekics, costume, symbol, and pose. Below is our whole class all dressed up. As well as each person individually pictured after giving their advertisement presentation to sell a random object.
